This last month has had a number of phenomena happening in the sky.
First off, there was the aurora borealis.
The Sun has been more active lately, making the auroras visible much further south. This was the best shot of something I could get. It was nowhere near this bright in actuality, but I could see a faint green tint to the sky, with faint patches of red here and there. I could see something moving in the sky later on, but was so dim that all I could see was subtle brighter spots. And they could move fast at times, I watched several dim pulses flicker across the sky that lasted under a second. If the Sun continues to be more active, I might be able to get more pictures of it!
Then, there was a comet!
The comet Tsuchinshan became visible in the sky. Or “visible” that is – this comet was harder to spot than the last one I saw. This one I could really only spot in the camera after a twenty second exposure. I wasn’t able to find it at all the first night I tried looking, but was able to locate it the second night after a lot of pictures. Once I found it, I switched to my 500mm lens which took several more shots and this was the best I could get (a 14 second exposure):

And then there was an unrelated meteor shower! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get any good pictures of these as it clouded over. This last month there was also another meteor shower and another solar eclipse, so it was packed with aerial phenomena! I’m just hoping that all these events aren’t terrible omens indicating the future…
